Welcome to Kimberly Lobit, Houston Audubon’s New Outreach and Engagement Director!

Please join us in welcoming our newest team member, Kimberly Lobit! Kimberly hails from Illinois, just outside the city of Chicago. She has worked as an environmental educator, avian field assistant, conservation program educator, education director, and public programs manager for a variety of organizations including the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center, the George Miksch Sutton Avian Research Center, the Woolaroc Museum and Wildlife Foundation, the Shreveport Aquarium, and the Houston Space Center.  Kimberly found her appreciation for birds while working at the Wildlife in Crisis rehabilitation center in Connecticut and while handling raptors at the University of Georgia Rock Eagle 4-H Environmental Education Center, where she also discovered a passion for engaging and teaching others. From birds, to the ocean, to outer space, Kimberly is excited to advocate for our spaceship Earth.

Kimberly picked a few questions to answer so we can get to know her a little better!

1. What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play?

I am not a huge sports fan, but there’s nothing like cheering on the Astros at the Minute Maid Stadium. Go Stros!

2. Do you live by any particular mantra?

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”

– Mahatma Gandhi

3. What is your favorite bird?

Blue Jay. They have such bright beautiful colors, very distinct calls, and strong personalities. I am also a sucker for any bird with a pronounced crest.

4. What are your hobbies?

I spend my time riding my bike on the bayous, cooking, hiking, and camping. I just bought a house and finally have a yard to garden. I cannot wait to learn how to plant a native garden for birds, bees, and butterflies to enjoy.

5. Do you listen to any podcasts?

My two favorite podcasts are The NoSleep Podcast and My Favorite Murder. I generally listen to them while working out, gardening, or cleaning.

6. If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?

My magical power would be breathing underwater and swimming at high speeds. As I roam the oceans, rivers, and lakes, I could take care of the marine life and clean up the pollution.

7. What was the last book you read?

The Cat and Mouse Duet- Haunting Adeline & Hunting Adeline. This duet is a dark horror that delves into the bowels and humanity that also plays with romance and the afterlife.

8. Which of the five senses would you say is your strongest?

My eyes are definitely my strongest sense since getting lasik.

9. Who was your first crush?

My first crust was Jonathan Taylor Thomas (JTT!). I would watch the TV show Home Improvement just so I could swoon over him.

10. What is your all-time favorite food?

Cheese. It doesn’t matter what kind or how it is prepared, I will eat it all.

Welcome to the team, Kimberly!
